She Faced Her Catfish But Couldn’t Be Honest 😱 Catfish: The TV Show

After two years of shady excuses, Tony turns to Nev and Kamie for help in finding out why his online crush Tiana refuses to video chat or meet with him in person.

TikTok star Jake has feelings for Taylor, who has been sending him messages and money online, but he becomes suspicious after getting ghosted in person and receiving threats.

Nev Schulman is a writer, producer, social advocate and TV host. He is best known for the documentary film "Catfish" and the follow-up MTV series "Catfish: The TV Show," which he hosts and executive produces.

Catfish: The TV Show often shortened to Catfish is an American reality -based documentary television series airing on MTV about the truths and lies of online dating.

The series is based on the film Catfish and premiered on November 12, Max Joseph served as a co-host for the first seven seasons of the show and his last episode aired on August 22, In May , filming of season 7 was suspended due to sexual misconduct allegations brought against Schulman until the suspension was lifted after the report of sexual misconduct was found to be "not credible".

Why the term "catfish" is used to describe people who portray someone else online. On the internet, a "catfish" is someone who creates fake personal profiles on social sites using someone else's pictures and false biographical information to pretend to be someone else.

These "catfish" usually intend to trick an unsuspecting person or more into falling in love with them. The term "catfish" is derived from the title of the previously-mentioned documentary, in which filmmaker Schulman discovers that the woman with whom he'd been carrying on an online relationship had not been honest in describing herself.

MTV and the Catfish film's producers, Schulman and Joseph, help people who are emotionally entangled with someone they have never met in real life.

Each episode is an investigation into whether or not the other participant in the virtual relationship is legitimate or if he or she is, in fact, a "catfish".

Some couples have been communicating for a few months — others, for years. Nev claims that he has received requests from people asking him for his help in determining whether or not their online-only lovers are lying or truthful about their identities.

In each episode, the hosts help a different person with a different story, travelling to his or her residence and using background checks and research to uncover the truth.

Nev and Max contact the other person to arrange a first meeting between the two virtual lovers, then document how both people are impacted.

Whether or not two people are totally lying to each other and it turns out to be a huge disaster, that's only the first part of the story. We then want to know why they are doing it, who they are, what they are feeling, what led them to this place, and why that resonates with thousands of other young people who have the same feelings, who don't have someone to talk to or don't know how to express themselves.

The original presentation of the program was in the hands of Nev Schulman and Max Joseph for the first seven seasons.

Speaking of the hosts, each episode they seemed to find it effortless to sort out the fact from fiction with regards to the online persona's and it smacks the question, why did the original people in the relationships not contemplate completing their own investigations?

I believe that the whole show is scripted and may go as far saying that the "pawns" are on the payroll, a la Jerry Springer show.

The hosts had an opportunity to actually oust these fake profile makers and try change the publics perceptions and attitudes towards online safety.

We have advertisements over here claiming that in America, 1 in 3 marriages are from relationships started online, so it is big business.

My question is surely the individuals involved must realise quite quickly or at least have a notion that something is amiss perhaps this is my Scottish cynicism.

When it is all revealed toward the end, the hosts are stand offish and not ruthless in their convictions when faced with things that are blatantly blatantly wrong.

Must be making money though. Anyway rantover. Manipulative trash Ripshin 15 May Seriously, how can you actually believe any of this scripted garbage?

I have been thirty-three years in the industry, and in the past twenty, have turned down every "reality show" inquiry as a crew person.

You don't think that they carefully mold the scenario? Notice that a van or two of crew people are ALREADY at each location.

True, they are likely not getting "location" permission to film at most of the sites reality shows are VERY cheap. By the way, they pay their crew at a miserly rate.

I can make professionally in a DAY, what they offer for ten days. It's "Jerry Springer" for the current age.

They take advantage of very unstable people, for your pleasure? These "victims" will have this on their backs, for life. Oh, and Nev is a narcissist.

MY GOD. They need to be sure if they've been on the show, and wanting to be on it again most likely their doing just for the fame of it , cause it's getting old seeing all the ones that r lying.

These two California cuckoo birds are catfishing everyone who takes this show seriously. I suppose it can be entertaining if you accept the fact that this is likely staged television.

I read that Schulman was expelled from Sarah Lawrence College. That story is probably more interesting than this dreadful show is. It's no secret that MTV churns out reality television minus a good portion of the reality.

Catfish: The TV Show is no exception. The show is pretty formulaic, especially as you get deeper into the second season. They meet with the victim, who proclaims deep emotional feelings for their online significant other, but various red flags are present - They've never met in person, never video chatted, etc.

The results vary; sometimes the online lover is a true "catfish" and turns out to be older, less attractive, or even the opposite gender of their assumed identity.

Other times, the story is less complex and involves minor lies. The endings range from disastrous to fairy-tale. Clearly, the show is not engineered exactly as it is presented, and there is plenty of speculation as to how genuine the narrative is.

However, like the documentary, it manages to be very interesting.
